My Completely Honest Review of Stitch Fix

I finally decided to try out Stitch Fix and in case you’ve been on the fence about trying them, I wanted to share with you my completely honest review of Stitch Fix so you can decide for yourself!

Okay, so first off, what is Stitch Fix and how the heck does it work?

Stitch Fix is a site that will curate clothing choices (5 pieces) and send them to you for $20 a box. Now here’s the kicker: if you don’t keep anything from the box, it’s just the $20, but if you decide to keep pieces from your box, it’ll cost you more (more on that below).

So let’s dive into my box. In the video below you get a my gut reaction to my first Stitch Fix box. 🙂

Here’s what each piece of clothing would have cost me if I kept every piece:

Jeans: $88.00

Pullover Sweater (the white one that I loved): $68.00

Dolman Knit Top: $48.00

Black Cardigan: $48.00

Infinity Scarf: $34.00

Grand Total if I kept the entire box: $286.00 (they did offer a discount of 25% which would have brought the total down to $214.50)

I’m not going to lie, I was flat-out SHOCKED by that price. I mean heck, I usually get my designer clothes for free or close to it, so the thought of paying over $200 for clothing was mind boggling! Not to mention, that by the time I had tried everything on, I was in love with everything. 

But I couldn’t afford to keep everything so I only kept the cardigan and scarf ……So my total ended up being, $86.92…yeah, I know. It definitely wasn’t cheap. 

I loved this white sweater, I truly did but I couldn’t justify the cost of it. In fact, I have another sweater very similar to it already in my closet so I didn’t keep it. 

The scarf, I just loved and I loved the jeans (they fit like a freaking glove!) but my husband hated the color of them.

I had mixed feelings about the Dolman top. I liked it, but I didn’t like that it sometimes gave me that dreaded “mommy pooch”. And it was really big feeling…not sure if it was supposed to be that way or not. And my husband actually point blank told me that it made me look frumpy and bigger than I was…oh honesty. 🙂

I did like it when it was paired with the black cardigan! I found that cardigan super comfortable and one of those pieces that you’d wear forever! P.S. in case you’re wondering where my boots are from, they’re here on Amazon.

So now for my honest opinion on Stitch Fix.

I do love that it was a fun way to “shop” for clothes. I really loved the jeans which surprised the heck out of me because I’m a blue-jean and sometimes black-jean kind of girl so trying on something outside that color range was a challenge and honestly would have NEVER picked them up at the store to try on. 

So I loved that I got to try something out that I would never have tried without it landing on my doorstep and finding out that I loved it! Also loved the fact that I got to really try them on. I vacuumed my house and did a few other household chores while wearing the different pieces and my husband was able to give me real and honest feedback on them. I liked that it allowed me to really see how the pieces moved with my body so I’d know if they were truly comfortable or not.  

I didn’t enjoy the sticker shock and realizing that I just flat out couldn’t afford to keep everything. I should have better prepared myself before hand so I wasn’t so, “oh man, I can’t keep everything so now I’m sad”. Also, I should have by passed the the clothes and reached first for the price card (which is conveniently located under the clothes in the box…).

The thing is, it brought up some old feelings that I had looooooong forgotten. It brought back the anxiety of my spending addiction and made decision making really hard. I ended up wanting to keep everything but the truth is, I would have put the majority of the stuff in that box back on the rack if I had been in a physical store. 

So be warned that this can definitely be temptation to spend more than you have so only go with this if you have the room in your budget. 

An advantage is they do have a referral program where you can earn $25 per sign up so you could definitely try to work up enough credits to make affording the clothes a reality, but just keep your priorities in mind when going through your box.
