We have two kids in diapers (one is in training pants) and it can become very expensive purchasing all the diapers and wipes. Trying to find ways to make saving money on diapers can be a challenge. On average, just for Collin (our youngest) we were spending almost a $100 a month on diapers alone for him (depending on sales and coupons). It was eating up so much of our grocery budget that I needed to find another way. (I know some moms love cloth diapering but it is not for me.)
In November I signed up for the free trail from The Honest Company for their diapers and wipes bundle along with their home essentials bundle. Honest’s diapers stood up to the overnight test, which is the most important test in my opinion. They not only come in adorable designs but they are eco-friendly, all natural, and work great.
If you have never heard of Honest here is a little background on the company:
“We believe the products people use should be safe and non-toxic (surprisingly, many companies don’t!) — not filled with questionable, risky, untested, or harsh ingredients. We also believe it’s better to be safe than sorry when deciding what goes in our products and we’re vigilant about the latest science regarding chemicals and health to ensure we’re being mindfully cautious.
Based on these beliefs, we created our Honestly FREE Guarantee — a core commitment we make to you and your children. And, it’s another way for us to be Honest — educating, empowering and inspiring people to make better choices for their health & families. Providing clear, credible, transparent information. No smoke and mirrors. No confusion.
What’s it mean? In a nutshell:
You can rest easy knowing The Honest Company DOES NOT USE health-compromising chemicals or compounds.”
Now the important part, how much money did we save?
The diapers and wipes bundle from Honest is $80 a month. That has saved us $288 a year just for Collin’s diapers and wipes. I do not purchase the training pants from Honest because that is not cost effective for us. However, purchasing the diapers and wipes is saving us a ton of money.
Here is the actual break down of cost all based on our yearly averages:
Purchasing from grocery store:
Diapers size 3: $1,040.00
Wipes: $208.00
Total: $1,248.00 a year
Purchasing from Honest:
Diapers and Wipes: $960.00 a year
Total Savings: $288.00 a year
For us, this is a significant cost savings as we could use all the extra money we can get. If you are interested in figuring out if Honest is right for you, I suggest you try their free trial. You will have to pay shipping which is $5.95 and you will be signed up for their bundle but you can cancel at any time or change your shipment date. I love these diapers and I recommend them to all mommies. Do the math for yourself and see if they will save you any money.

I’m kind of curious how you figure that you save. If I’m doing the math correctly, this is WAY more than what we would spend even without using coupons.
I can easily find wipes on sale for $2 a pack and so with the bundle, you’d be paying say $8 for the wipes. That leaves the rest ($72) for the diapers and if you get 6 packs of diapers (which is what is in the bundle) then you are paying $12 a pack!
Even without using coupons I can easily get Huggies and Pampers diapers on sale at CVS for $8.99.
Am I figuring something wrong? I can see how if using non-toxic diapers is important to you, then this might be an okay deal. But otherwise, you are going to be paying much more than if you just simply watch sales elsewhere. And if you use coupons, then this is MUCH more than you’d normally pay.
I’m going by where we live and the cost of diapers near us (We don’t even live any where near close to a CVS or a drugstore that we could play the drugstore match game). The wipes are factoring in for both my boys not just one. The cloth style wipes (which are typically more expensive) are the only ones that don’t give my boys diaper rash. This won’t be cheaper for everyone but it is for us even with coupons. Honest diapers hold up twice as better as Pampers or Huggies so I can use less of them. We were going through 2 1/2 packs of diapers before and now we’re down to 1 1/2 packs for him. Again, this isn’t going to be cheaper for everyone, you should always do your math and homework before making a large purchase.
I wish I could justify buying The Honest Company’s diapers but it is cheaper for me to just use Target’s Up&Up brand.
BUUUUUUT The Honest Company is coming to Target soon so that is exciting!!
I know! I saw that and I was screaming ‘Yes!’ because you know I need another reason to shop at Target. lol 🙂
I have thought about using the Honest Company, but I don’t think it would be cost effective for us. I usually use disposable diapers exclusively for the first three months with our children’s lives. They are in disposable for a total of eight months. [At that age I have always started potty training and my daughters all were potty trained by nine or ten months of age. (They all started walking around eight to eight and a half months of age.)] We only use disposable diapers for outings like Sam’s Club trips (one hour away), church, family visits (5-hour car rides), etc. At home we use cloth diapers and cloth wipes that I have made. The disposables we purchase at our local grocery store for $6.59 a package. I wish they were $2 like The Thrifty Frugal Mom commented about. I have only ran up on a deal like that once. And it was at a Target in Cary, NC when my oldest was a few months old. I remember literally running with her up front to get a cart to load up, because I past them on my way out the door to purchase my one box of baby wipes. LOL!
