If you’re new here, every month I share how I’m doing with my goals for the year. This includes personal, blogging/business, and of course financial goals. This post holds me accountable to the goals I set every year, but more importantly, it helps my readers to see that having financial goals in place are the key to succeeding with money. If you need help setting financial goals, make sure you read this post here on the steps to setting financial goals.

It’s not lost on me that next year will be a tough year for my boys. They’re inseparable but next year they will be at different schools. Even though Collin is excited about going to school 5 days a week instead of 4 and Conner is excited about Kindergarten, I know that they will deeply miss their best friend during the day. But I’m thankful for a new school that believes strongly in family and puts together playdates for the kids and welcomes their siblings because these boys had the best day of their lives at the quarry – yes, that infamous one from The Walking Dead and Stranger Things. It’s really a concrete plant and you should have seen them light up when a huge dump truck drove next to my car….😱 and they have done nothing but play with their tractors since we got home. . . . . #kindergarten #quarry #thewalkingdead #strangerthings #brothers #conneranthony #collinwyatt
2017 Personal Goals
Work out 2x a week using these free videos. I’ve changed this goal to the below.
Complete all weekly exercises in the Body Boss program – I’ve lost weight and finally I am feeling fit and fell wayyyy better about my body!
Average 10,000 steps a day – 5 days a week Still have not found my FitBit so….yeah, I’ll probably have to remove this goal. 😂
Complete Crystal’s 15 Days to a Healthier You Challenge Done.
New goal*** 💥 I’m spending the rest of this year honing my French speaking skills. I took French for over 5 years in school and loved speaking the language. Unfortunately, I haven’t used it in a decade so I’m sharping my skills. Would you be interested in what I’m doing to re-learn the language? I could totally share it in a post (so far it hasn’t cost me anything!).
We went on our annual family vacation to Tybee Island! Click here for how we make going on vacation as a family of five affordable.
2017 Marriage Goals
Write one love note to Pat every month. Done.
Spend one hour every day with just Pat. Totally failed at this one….
Take one secluded vacation with Pat this year I’m trying to make this happen soon…can’t share details since my hubby might read this. 😉 Love you babe!
These two…Charlotte kept trying to run off and scare the seagulls, so big brother Collin grabbed her hand and said, “c’mon Char-bena! Let’s go to the lighthouse!”
2017 Mothering Goals
Take my children on a fun outing once-a-month (Done. We went to the Quarry – that infamous one from The Walking Dead and Stranger Things. The boys were in HEAVEN!!!)
📚 I finally got to read a book I’ve been dying to read…well I technically didn’t “read” it – I listened to it. I didn’t have the room in my budget to buy the book, so I tried out Audible for 30 days and got to “read” the book for free! 🙂 Here’s the book.
We went to an uninhabited island (Wassaw Island – you can only get to it by boat). It was so much fun but I have to real quick, give a shoutout to this blue tent thingy. It was $30 on Amazon (price has gone up to $35 now) and so worth it!
One kiddo took a nap in it and we all ate lunch in. It was a great spot to escape the sun, especially because we were there all day long and it folds up into a little bag so it’s super easy to transport. Truly we didn’t want to leave and I’m sure if we had been allowed to, my husband would have just built a house there and that would be our new home; we loved it so much! 🙂
Set aside dedicated time for help with schoolwork and arts/crafts Done this month. (P.S. If you’re wondering how I come up with things to do with my kids, be sure to check out Susan’s Summer Survival Calendar. It’s what I use to plan out our activities!)
When we first arrived on Wassaw Island:
When we we got here this morning, we were the only ones. Such a fun family adventure today. You can only get to this island by boat so it was an amazing find! Check out my Insta Stories for more fun (like me getting to see the Cockspur Lighthouse up close). And we got to see a dolphin up close but no photo of that sadly. . . . #tybeeisland #wassawisland #familyfunday #fearonfamily #vacation #travel #offthebeatenpath
2017 Spiritual Goals
I did really great last year with my spiritual goals so I’m not setting any crazy goals for this year. 🙂
Pray 3x a Day (Slowly getting better at this one…)
Complete 3 Bible Studies outside of the Women’s Bible Study Group at church. I’ve got 2 completed so far!
2017 Financial Goals
Pay off mortgage by 12/31/17.
- Balance in December 2016: $27,938.08
- Current balance: $23,097.69 (most current payment hasn’t calculated yet…) Yes, we have totally stalled here. Our tax burden is insane this year and we’re working with our CPA to try to figure out how to get it lowered. The sad thing is that combined, my husband and I earn less than $80,000 a year but our tax burden is nearly $15,000 and it’s started to hurt us financially. So hopefully we’ll get this solved soon. The burden is mostly with my business because I’m a single-member LLC and so I’m heavily taxed with the self-employment tax. 🙁 )
Save to replace roof by May 2017. We decided that we’re scratching this goal until after we get our house paid off. Savings goal: $4,000 Current balance: $1,000
